Noise as in an importance of harmonics, repetition, tone, distortion and some sort of higher aspiration, be it religious or opiate redemption or bliss.Spacemen 3 were psychedelic in the loosest sense of the word; their guitar explorations were colorfully mind-altering, but not in the sense of the acid rock of the ’60s.
Spacemen 3 were an English neo-psychedelic space rock band formed in 1984 in Rugby, Warwickshire by Jason Pierce (a.k.a. Spaceman) and Peter Kember (a.k.a. Their first album, Sound of Confusion (1986), was not successful commercially, but it attracted a loyal fan base. Its follow-up, 1987's Perfect Prescription, is a concept album mirroring the highs and lows of a drug trip.

And so the Spacemen return on record, at least. Britain’s Space Age Recordings, home to Sonic Boom’s Spectrum and E.A.R. And overseer of numerous Spacemen 3 reissues and archival projects, offers up an intriguing little flashback of symphonic ecstasy. The cheekily-titled DJ Tones – though there may be “tones” here ripe for sampling. In 1986, the group released its debut album, Sound of Confusion, on Glass Records. At first the band sounded a bit like a punked-up garage rock band, but their music quickly evolved into their signature trance-like neo-psychedelia. Spacemen 3's second album, 1987's The Perfect Prescription, was the first to capture the group's distinctive style.
