Coles Speedcrane 1958 - 1978

When Coles took over Taylors in 1959 it was their little Jumbo crane that the Coles design team was to develop into what was to bacome one of Coles most popular cranes which was to remain basically the same untill Coles finally closed.

The Speedcrane was based on the Taylors crane known as the Jumbo Speedcrane. Jumbo referring to the crane that proceeded it. The layout shown below in the drawing the is typical for all the speedcrane range, this drawing is of the popular 7 ton version.

The Speedcrane sits somewhere between a Yard crane and a full Lorry crane. It is nippy and maneuverable with a low overall hight yet it is capable of full fast trave on roads. This makes it ideal to be scent out to small jobs where a simple few lifts are required. It is the ideal crane for industrial sites where heavy goods need to be transported from place to place.
By the seventies there was a range of Speedcranes from the smallest 3 Ton to the largest 7 Ton. This range gradually in increased in capacity upto eleven tons, lifts above this required a larger machine and was taken up by the Hydra lorry crane range which began with the ten tone machine. Below is a list of the range produced from 1959 until 1987.
